Shomari Figures’ Priorities Continue to Misalign  with Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District

Once again, we see how out of touch Democrats can be, and unfortunately, our own Representative Shomari Figures is no exception. Instead of addressing the pressing issues facing the hardworking people of Montgomery, Mobile, and the Black Belt, Figures has chosen to prioritize—wait for it—another paid holiday for government employees. U.S. Representative Figures, has introduced the Rosa Parks Day Act, a bill aimed at making December 1st a federal holiday. The legislation, co-sponsored by fellow Alabama Democrat Terri Sewell would add a twelfth federal holiday to the calendar, granting paid time off to federal employees and putting pressure on state and local governments to follow suit.

Now, let’s be clear: Rosa Parks was a hero, and her courage changed history. But the question Alabama voters should be asking is: Why is this his priority?

Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District is home to a diverse population, including military families, farmers, and small business owners. They’re not asking for another paid day off for government workers, they’re asking for real leadership on issues that actually affect their lives.

The American taxpayer is already footing the bill for 11 federal holidays. And if you think this will just be a federal issue, think again. Once this passes, there will be immediate pressure on Alabama’s state and local governments to follow suit—meaning even more tax dollars will go toward paying government workers for another day off while small businesses and private-sector workers get nothing.

And let’s be honest, how does this help the people of Alabama’s 2nd District? Does it make the economy stronger? Does it fix failing schools? Does it improve healthcare access? No. It’s just another virtue-signaling stunt from a Democrat who would rather play identity politics than do the real work of governing.

Where’s the Leadership? If Figures really wanted to honor Rosa Parks, he would be fighting for school choice, lower taxes, and economic freedoms that actually empower working families in Alabama. But instead, like so many Democrats, he’s pushing performative politics while dodging the real issues.

So, here’s a challenge to Rep. Figures:,

  • Why is pushing for a government holiday your priority instead of fighting for the struggling families in Montgomery, Mobile and the Black Belt?
  • Why not focus on improving healthcare instead of securing another day off for bureaucrats?
  • At the end of the day, the people of Alabama’s 2nd District don’t need another empty gesture. They need leaders who will actually fight for them, not career politicians who use their time in office to push symbolic policies that do nothing to fix the real problems facing Alabama families.,

The choice is clear: Alabama needs leadership that puts people over politics—not another out-of-touch Democrat looking to expand the size of government while ignoring the real struggles of everyday Americans.
